got this hook to take my adult kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula nigrita) out of his tank. He’s 4.5 feet long and as big around as a garden hose, and the hook is easily able to handle his size.

I needed a sturdy snake hook for my hatchling milk snake. They are notorious for being flighty and musking when being handled. This snake hood does the job. I don’t plan on using it forever; I just want to use it to get my snake to calm down when I reach into her tank to get her out. I wouldn’t recommend this for a fully grown snake.

The big (and very cool) surprise was that although the hook is tiny when retracted, as expected, it actually has a pocket clip like a ball-point pen would! This means you can tuck it in the breast pocket of a safari shirt and be prepared for minor exploring, even if not carrying a larger “pro version” hook.

This is a case of being creative. I did not get this to be a snake handler. Sometimes when I’m shopping I can’t reach things in the back of an upper shelf. After some searching online I came up with this little hook that will fit in my purse, expand to a good length for a “reacher”.
